Commencement
Commencement refers to the formal annual event ceremony held in May. Commencement is organized by University Ceremonies and Events. Walking in the Commencement ceremony does not mean your degree has been officially conferred.1
Eligibility to Participate
- Must be within 8 credits of completing degree requirements. If not within 8 credits, students may petition their college dean for permission to participate.
- Must have applied to graduate for May, or the following September or December.
- Previous September and December graduates will be invited to participate by the Commencement office.
Register to Participate
Students must register to participate in Commencement after applying to graduate with the Office of the Registrar.

1Degree Conferral refers to the official academic action processed by the Office of the Registrar after graduation certification confirming the successful completion of all degree requirements.
