Fire Safety

In addition to Fire and General Safety behaviors prohibited in the Code of Conduct, the following expectations apply to residents living in university-housing and their guests:

  1. The following items are prohibited in all on-campus housing facilities: Air conditioner units, candles, clothes washers and dryers, combustible materials and fuel (including stain, butane, propane, gasoline, kerosene, and camping or cooking fuels), decorative objects that heat up (including lava lamps), dishwashers, electric blankets, electric heaters, explosives, fireworks, halogen bulbs, hazardous chemicals, homemade electric bikes and scooters, incense and incense paraphernalia, live evergreen and holiday decorations (i.e. pine or fir trees), fuel-based lighters, motorized vehicles of any kind (including hoverboards), microwaves with power consumption above 1000 watts, motor vehicle parts and accessories, non UL-listed electrical devices, overloaded electrical outlets or extension cords, refrigerators larger than 5.0 cubic feet or over 35 inches in height, water beds, wax tarts, weapons and firearms (including imitations or replicas such as airsoft guns).  Any item that is otherwise prohibited from campus or residential buildings by University policy is also prohibited from on-campus housing.
  2. The following items are permitted for in-room storage but may only be used in campus kitchens, including apartment kitchens, and only when attended: Air fryers, electric frying pans, heating or immersion coils, hot plates, hot pots, induction plates, pressure cookers (including instant pots), mini grills, mini ovens, panini makers, rice makers, sandwich and grill makers, slow cookers, toasters, and toaster ovens.
  3. The following items are permitted for use only when attended: Curling irons, coffee makers, and irons.
