The Department of Security Studies spans the fields of homeland security, intelligence, cybersecurity, and emergency management. Our students aim to build safe communities and resilient institutions and corporations. Our programs are designed to cultivate analytical skills and practical experience through internships, capstones, and hands-on activities in and out of the classroom. Coursework is cross-disciplinary, and students are encouraged to synthesize insights from a wide range of fields to prepare them to tackle the most vexing public safety and security challenges at home and abroad, from climate change to terrorism to cybersecurity, and more. Our students are problem-solvers who pursue careers in a wide variety of professions such as intelligence analysis, emergency management, homeland security, environmental security, law enforcement, corporate security, law, and other opportunities in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
Programs include a BS in homeland security, an online MS in cybersecurity policy and risk management and an online MS in national security intelligence analysis. The Department also offers minors across a range of thematic areas in security studies.
